A response field with a fixed set of values, such as the status of an evaluation or the state of a job, can gain a new value in any release. The reference pages list the values known when you read them. Write your client so that a value it does not know is data, not an error:
  • Do not reject the whole response when one field holds an unlisted value.
  • Give an unlisted value a default branch, for example “show it as it is” or “keep waiting”.
The Python SDK keeps an unlisted value as a plain string. Two cases still reject the whole response on an unlisted value, so upgrade the SDK: any version older than 4.38.0, and the state of a job in version 5.11.0 and older. A value in a request field is different: a value that the API does not accept answers 400.
